The Vadhavan Port is set to be constructed through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and the Maharashtra Maritime Board.
About the Vadhavan Port:
- This port, envisioned as an all-weather Greenfield deep draft major port, aligns with the objectives of the PM Gati Shakti program.
- Located in Palghar District, the port will operate on a landlord model, where the port authority acts as both the regulatory body and landlord, while private companies manage port operations. This development is to be facilitated through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
- The construction of the Vadhavan Port will occur in two phases, aiming for a total container capacity of 23.2 million TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalents).
- The port will feature a 20-meter draft, capable of handling mega vessels, enhancing its operational capabilities.
