10th and 12th standard students from the CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) board can now obtain their verified marksheets from DigiLocker.
About the DigiLocker Platform:
- A secure cloud-based platform that allows users to access, verify, and store documents in a digital wallet, retrieving and presenting them easily to officials as required.
- Launched in 2015 under the Digital India programme.
- Implemented by the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY).
- Validity of Documents:
- Legally valid under the Information Technology (IT) Act 2000.
- Treated at par with original physical documents under the IT Rules, 2016.
Benefits:
- Secure, reduced administrative cost, paperless governance, provides updated versions of user documents, real-time verification, consent systems, security audit, etc.
Issues:
- Digital illiteracy, privacy concerns, slightly mismatched certificates hinder document retrieval, no uniformity in acceptance of documents produced from it, etc.
