Archaeologists have uncovered a 5,200-year-old Harappan settlement at Padta Bet in Kachchh, Gujarat.
Key Findings from the Excavation:
- The site shows signs of being continuously inhabited from the Early Harappan to the Late Harappan periods.
- Excavations uncovered distinctive ceramics indicative of a local pottery tradition.
- Items found include large storage jars, as well as smaller bowls and dishes.
- Among the artifacts found were semi-precious stone beads made of carnelian and agate, as well as terracotta spindle whorls, copper, and lithic tools.
- The remains include bones of cattle, sheep, or goats. There were also fragments of edible shellfish, showing the exploitation of marine resources.
