About the Kutch Ajrakh:
- It is a traditional textile craft practiced by artisans of Kutch, Gujarat.
- This craft was introduced by Sind Muslims approximately 400 years ago.
Current Applications:
- It is now commonly used for turbans, shawls, and bedsheets.
Distinctive Features:
- Printing and Dyeing Techniques: It involves intricate resist printing, hand-block printing, and dyeing techniques on cotton fabric.
- Complex Geometry: Artisans create constellations of designs using complex geometric patterns.
- Natural Dyes: The fabric is dyed using natural vegetable and mineral colors.
- Color Significance:
- Blue: Represents the sky.
- Red: Symbolizes the land and fire.
- White: Depicts the stars.
