The Chief priest of Srimukhalingam temple recently urged Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for inclusion in UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) aiming for international recognition and financial support for temple preservation.

- The Srimukhalingam temple was built by Kāmārnava–II of Eastern Ganga dynasty in the 9th century CE, in Andhra Pradesh.
- It is dedicated to Srimukha Lingeswara (a form of Lord Shiva).
- It is built in the Kalinga architectural style.
- It is located by the Vamsadhara River.
- It is also known as Dakshina Kashi (the Varanasi of South India).
- The deity is a fossil of the trunk of the Ippa (Madhuka) tree with a naturally carved face but not a combination of stone carvings.
