About Digital Agriculture Mission (DAM):

  • The DAM is designed as an umbrella scheme to support and integrate various digital agriculture initiatives.

Key Components:

  • Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI): This digital system will enable the safe and efficient delivery of services and economic opportunities.
  • DPI consists of three main components:
    • AgriStack: Includes foundational databases such as the Farmers’ Registry, Geo-referenced Village Maps, and the Crop Sown Registry. Each farmer will receive a digital identity, akin to Aadhaar, which will be linked to their land records, livestock ownership, and more.
    • Krishi Decision Support System (DSS): Utilizes geospatial data, weather and satellite information, drought and flood monitoring, and groundwater availability to assist farmers in making informed decisions.
    • Soil Profiling: The mission aims to complete Detailed Soil Profile Maps on a 1:10,000 scale, covering approximately 142 million hectares of agricultural land.

Significance:

  • The DAM will enable efficient, easier, and faster service and scheme delivery to farmers.
  • It is expected to create employment opportunities for around 2.5 lakh trained local youth and Krishi Sakhis.
  • The mission will lead to the development of efficient value chains for agricultural inputs and post-harvest processes.

Initiatives for Digital Technology in Agriculture

  • National Agriculture Market (e-NAM): A Pan-India electronic trading portal that offers digital services to traders, farmers, and mandis.
  • National e-Governance Plan in Agriculture (NeGP-A): Provides funds for projects that involve modern technologies like AI, Machine Learning, and drones.
  • Other Initiatives: Include Kisan Call Centers, mKisan portal & mobile app, Direct Benefit Transfer under the PM KISAN Scheme, and more.
