The first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant was recently paid tributes on his death anniversary.

- He entered politics in 1921, and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh.
- He became known for his legal prowess and was appointed by the Congress to represent revolutionaries such as Ramprasad Bismil and Ashfaqulla Khan.
- Pant’s association with Jawaharlal Nehru during protests further solidified his position within the Congress party.
- Pant’s commitment to India’s independence led to several imprisonments, notably during the Salt March in 1930 and for signing theQuit India resolution in 1942.
- He served as a mediator between Gandhi’s faction, advocating non-violence, and Subhas Chandra Bose’s faction, advocating more aggressive means against British rule.

- He served as the Chief Minister of the United Provinces in 1937 and later assumed the responsibilities of India’s first Home Minister after Sardar Patel’s demise in 1954.
