The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has recently launched the Geographic Information System (GIS) application Gram Manchitra.

About Gram Manchitra Application:
- It facilitates and supports Gram Panchayats to perform planning at Gram Panchayat level using geospatial technology.
- Aim: To encourage the Spatial Planning.
- It provides a unified Geo-Spatial platform to visualize developmental works to be taken up across the different sectors.
- It also provides a decision support system for Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).
- It brings several planning tools that use GIS technology to help develop realistic and achievable development plans.
About mActionSoft:
- It is a mobile based solution to help in capturing photos with Geo-Tags (GPS Coordinates) for the works which have asset as an output.
- Geotagging is the process of adding geographical identification metadata to media such as a photograph, video, websites, SMS messages, QR Codes, etc.
- Three stages of Geo-tagging of the assets:
- Before the start of the work,
- During the work, and
- On completion of work.
- This would provide a repository of information on works and assets related to natural resource management, water, drought, sanitation, agriculture, dams, irrigation, etc.
- Assets geo-tagged using the m-ActionSoft application are available on Gram Manchitra, enhancing the visualization of various developmental works in the Gram Panchayats.
