The saalu mantap (temple’s pavilion) of Hampi’s Virupaksha temple has recently collapsed.
About Hampi’s Virupaksha temple:
- The temple is dedicated to Lord Virupaksha or Pampapathi, a form of Shiva and consort of the local goddess “Pampa”, and is situated in Hampi, Karnataka.
- It is a part of the Group of Monuments at Hampi, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Originally built in the 7th century, the temple gained prominence during the Vijayanagara Empire (1336 to 1646).
- It is built in the Dravidian temple architecture style, featuring grand gopurams (3), Vimana, intricate carvings, and pillared halls.
