The World Health Organization (WHO) recently certified Cabo Verde as the 3rd malaria-free country in the African region after Mauritius and Algeria.
Location of Cabo Verde:
- Cabo Verde or Cape Verde, is a country comprising a group of islands that lie 620 km off the west coast of Africa in Central Atlantic Ocean.
- It is named for the westernmost cape of Africa, located in nearby Senegal, and is the nearest point on the continent.
- It forms a part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles.
- It is composed of ten volcanic islands and Mindelo, on São Vicente functions as a deepwater harbour.
