Catalonia, an autonomous community in northeastern Spain, has recently declared a state of emergency due to severe drought conditions, marking its worst on record.

Location of Catalonia:

• The autonomous community of Catalonia occupies a triangular area in the northeastern corner of Spain and has Barcelona as its capital city.
• It is bordered by France and Andorra to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the east, Valencia (autonomous community) to the south, and Aragon (autonomous community) to the west.
• The Pyrenees mountains separate Catalonia from France, and to the west the pre-Pyrenees and the Ebro River basin mark the border with Aragon.
