Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council recently urged China not to change the “status quo” around waters near Taiwan-controlled Kinmen islands by sending coast guard boats into restricted areas.
Location of Kinmen Island:
- It is also known as Quemoy, is a group of eight islands in located to the east of Xiamen in China separated by Xiamen Bay near Taiwan Strait, and northwest of Kao-hsiung in Taiwan.
- The Islands have two populated islands, Kinmen, the main island, and Little Kinmen.
- Its climate is warm and humid, while agriculture (sweet potatoes, peanuts, sorghum, barley, wheat, soybeans, vegetables, and rice) is the main occupation on Quemoy.
