About National Council for Transgender Persons (NCTP):

  • NCTP is the statutory body, generally concerned with advising the government on all policy matters affecting transgender and intersex persons, as well as people with diverse GIESC (gender identity/expression and sex characteristics) identities.
  • It also aims to monitor and evaluate the impact of policies and programs intended for the welfare of transgender persons.
  • It is involved in creating awareness and sensitizing society about the rights and issues faced by transgender individuals.
    • This includes educational initiatives to promote understanding and acceptance.
  • It was established in 2020 under the provisions of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
