Archaeologists have found three new archaeological sites in Telangana.
About Sites:
- Ooragutta: This is an Iron Age megalithic site. The unique aspect here is that the side slabs align with the shape of the cap-stone, creating distinctive monument shapes.
- The monuments date back to about 1000 BCE.
- Damaratogu Rock Art Sites: Located in the Gundala Mandal of the Bhadradri Kothagudem district, these sites contain two separate rock art locations.
- Devarlabanda Mula: This site features rock paintings showing only animals, with no signs of human figures or symbols related to domestication or warfare.
- This suggests that it might be from the Mesolithic era (8000 – 3000 BCE).
Key Highlights of the discovery:
- Over 200 megalithic monuments have been identified, though the exact count is tricky due to the dense forests and hilly terrain.
- The most common type is known as Dolmenoid Cists, which are semi-subterranean chamber tombs.
