About New Caledonia:
- New Caledonia is a French overseas collectivity with substantial autonomy as per the 1998 Nouméa Accord.
- It is identified as one of the European Union’s Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), yet it is not incorporated into the European Union, the Euro, or the Schengen zones.
- Located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.
- Consists of the main island of Grande Terre, the four Loyalty Islands (Ouvéa, Lifou, Tiga, Maré), the Belep archipelago, the Isle of Pines, and several remote islands.
- The highest point on New Caledonia is Mount Panié within the Mount Panié range.
- The primary river is the Diahot River.
- The Lagoons of New Caledonia and the associated coral reef ecosystem are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Shares maritime borders with Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu.
