The US’ National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has recently announced that the El Niño conditions, which were present since mid-2023, have transitioned to an ENSO-neutral phase.
About ENSO:
- ENSO, or the El Niño Southern Oscillation, is a recurring climate pattern characterized by variations in the temperature of waters in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.
- This climate pattern occurs in irregular cycles ranging from 2 to 7 years.
- The cycle includes three phases: El Niño and La Niña, which are the extreme phases, and a third phase known as ENSO-neutral.
