About ENSO:

  • ENSO, or the El Niño Southern Oscillation, is a recurring climate pattern characterized by variations in the temperature of waters in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.
  • This climate pattern occurs in irregular cycles ranging from 2 to 7 years.
  • The cycle includes three phases: El Niño and La Niña, which are the extreme phases, and a third phase known as ENSO-neutral.
