About Parkinson Plus Syndrome(PPS):

  • PPS, also called atypical parkinsonism, refers to a group of neurodegenerative movement disorders that resemble idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) with certain distinguishing clinical and pathophysiological features.
    • Idiopathic means having an unknown cause or mechanism of apparent spontaneous origin.
  • Distinctive features of PPS include early-onset dementia, hallucinations, dysautonomia, gaze palsy, myoclonus, pyramidal tract signs, and alien limb phenomenon.
  • Common PPS conditions include Lewy body dementia (LBD), multiple system atrophy (MSA), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

About Parkinson’s disease:

  • Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic brain disorder that affects the nervous system and parts of the body controlled by nerves.
  • It causes problems with movement, mental health, sleep, pain, and other health issues.
  • Primary symptoms include apraxia, rigidity, bradykinesia, tremor, and postural instability.

PD gets worse over time and there is no cure, but therapies and medicines can reduce symptoms
