Plunging Region

Scientists have spotted a strange area around black holes called the plunging region for the first time. 

About Plunging Region:

• Plunging regions are areas around black holes where matter transitions from orbiting to directly falling into the black hole.
• These regions support the predictions of Einstein’s theory of general relativity, which asserts that particles near a black hole cannot sustain circular orbits due to intense gravitational forces.
• In plunging regions, matter experiences some of the strongest gravitational forces in the galaxy, causing it to fall towards the black hole at velocities approaching the speed of light.
• This phenomenon provides the first observational proof that validates a crucial aspect of Einstein’s theory concerning the behavior of matter under extreme gravitational influences.
