A recent paper highlighted the role of transposons in gene-editing and disease treatment.
About the Transposons:
- Transposons, also known as jumping genes or Transposable Elements (TEs), are DNA sequences that can move within the genome.
- Discovered in 1948 by Noble Laureate Barbara McClintock, they influence genetic diversity by altering gene expression through epigenetic mechanisms.
- Over 45% of the human genome is made up of TEs, which contribute to genetic diversity but can also trigger disease-causing mutations.
