545th birth anniversary of Vallabhacharya was recently celebrated.
About the Vallabhacharya:
- He was a scholar, writer, saint, a devoted follower of Lord Krishna, and a key proponent of the Bhakti movement.
Birth and Title:
- Born in 1479 AD.
- Conferred the title “Acharya” by the Madhava sampradaya and Vishnuswami (Rudra) sampradaya.
Death:
- Passed away in 1530 AD.
Key Contributions:
- He established the Krishna-centered Pushti Marg (path towards grace) tradition in the Braj region, based on Brahmasutra and Srimad Bhagwat Geeta as foundational literature.
- He founded the Shuddhadvaita (Pure Non-dualism) school of thought.
Philosophy:
- He rejected asceticism or monastic life and emphasized that a householder could achieve salvation.
- He opposed Adi Shankara’s Advaita Vedanta.
